Persistent Fever: Supportive Care With Traditional Chinese Medicine | Case Study

Overview

A woman in her late 50s sought TCM-based supportive care after experiencing a persistent elevated temperature for approximately one week. She reported accompanying symptoms including severe occipital headaches, generalized aches, joint discomfort, constipation, appetite loss, and intermittent episodes of chills.

Her medical history included rheumatoid arthritis and prior breast cancer treatment involving surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. According to her reports, recent COVID-19 testing and blood work had shown no abnormalities, yet her symptoms continued. She consulted our clinic seeking a complementary approach to help manage her discomfort and support her overall well-being.

This case study describes her experience with herbal therapy as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Key challenges

Treatment

Based on TCM pattern differentiation, a customized herbal formula was prepared with the goal of supporting comfort, addressing the individual’s reported symptom patterns, and promoting overall balance within the TCM framework.

After two days, the individual reported:

Residual fatigue and mild dizziness persisted. The herbal prescription was then adjusted to align with her evolving symptom presentation and to support recovery and energy according to TCM principles.

No claims are made regarding pathogen elimination or treatment of infectious disease; the herbal approach was used solely as part of supportive care.

Outcomes

The following observations were reported by the individual:

These observations reflect this individual’s personal experience and may vary significantly from person to person. TCM principles were used to inform the herbal approach, and this case does not suggest diagnostic or curative outcomes.

Conclusion

This case illustrates one person’s experience receiving TCM herbal therapy as supportive care for persistent fever symptoms and associated discomfort, following conventional medical assessment. While she reported meaningful improvements, responses differ, and TCM does not replace medical evaluation or treatment when required.
