Raynaud’s Syndrome

What is
Raynaud Syndrome?

Raynaud’s disease (also known as Raynaud Syndrome or Raynaud’s Phenomenon) is a circulatory condition that affects blood flow to certain parts of the body—most often the fingers and toes. It is characterized by episodes of blood vessel constriction, usually triggered by cold temperatures or stress, leading to numbness, color changes, and discomfort. These episodes can range from mild to severely disruptive.

While often considered a minor issue, Raynaud’s can significantly impact daily life and may indicate underlying health conditions if left unmanaged.

Linked to autoimmune or connective tissue disorders such as lupus or scleroderma. This type tends to be more serious and may lead to complications.

What Causes
Raynaud’s Disease ?

The exact cause of primary Raynaud’s disease remains unclear, but it involves overreactions of the blood vessels to cold or stress. In secondary Raynaud’s, underlying medical conditions trigger the narrowing of blood vessels. Other contributing factors include:

If you have close family members with Raynaud’s disease, your chances of developing the condition are higher. Genetics may play a role in how sensitive your blood vessels are to temperature and stress.

Conditions like lupus, scleroderma, or rheumatoid arthritis are commonly linked to secondary Raynaud’s. These autoimmune diseases can damage blood vessels or cause inflammation, leading to increased sensitivity and circulation problems.

Smoking narrows blood vessels and reduces circulation, which can trigger or worsen Raynaud’s symptoms. Nicotine also makes your blood vessels more reactive to cold and stress.

Using vibrating tools or repeated hand motions can damage nerves and vessels in the hands. This damage may contribute to poor circulation and make the fingers more vulnerable to Raynaud’s attacks.

Some medications, like beta-blockers or migraine treatments, can constrict blood vessels and increase the risk of Raynaud’s episodes. Always consult your doctor if you notice symptoms after starting a new medication.

Our Approach

At Sunrise Neuro Acupuncture Integrative Clinic, we offer a holistic and personalized treatment for Raynaud’s disease, combining Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern techniques.

Our neuro acupuncture approach is designed to address the neurological and vascular imbalances that contribute to Raynaud’s disease. By stimulating precise points on the scalp and body, this technique activates nerve pathways connected to blood vessel function, helping to restore healthy circulation to affected areas such as fingers and toes.

Unlike traditional acupuncture, neuro acupuncture targets both the central and peripheral nervous systems, working to regulate the autonomic responses that cause the spasms in blood vessels during a Raynaud’s episode. It also reduces sensitivity to cold and improves the body’s overall ability to manage stress—two major triggers of Raynaud’s attacks. Over time, patients often experience improved thermal regulation, reduced numbness, and fewer and less intense episodes.

Our herbal medicine treatments are customized to each patient’s constitution and symptoms, focusing on warming the internal body, strengthening the blood, and supporting vascular health.

These herbal formulas may include warming herbs that increase peripheral circulation, immune-modulating herbs that address underlying autoimmune contributors (particularly in secondary Raynaud’s), and adaptogenic herbs that help the body better manage stress. Our goal is not only to alleviate symptoms but also to address the internal root causes, creating a strong foundation for long-term recovery and Raynaud’s disease prevention.

FAQ

Find answers to common questions about our natural Raynaud’s Disease treatments and how to book your consultation.

Raynaud’s can run in families, especially in cases of primary Raynaud’s. While genetics may play a role, the exact cause is often multifactorial.

Primary Raynaud’s is usually mild and manageable, but secondary Raynaud’s can be more serious, especially when linked to autoimmune disorders or when it leads to tissue damage.

Secondary Raynaud’s is often associated with autoimmune diseases like lupus or scleroderma. Primary Raynaud’s, however, is not autoimmune in nature.

Raynaud’s is a vascular condition that affects blood flow, usually to the fingers and toes. It can occur alone (primary) or as a symptom of another condition (secondary).

Raynaud’s may develop from overactive responses to cold or stress, or as a result of underlying autoimmune or connective tissue diseases. Lifestyle and environmental factors may also contribute.
